I am Hannah - founder, creator, maker, all-round one-woman band. I didn't go to perfumery school to create my scents... I did something harder. I taught myself. Years of research, hundreds of hours of trial and error, and a genuine obsession with understanding why scent works the way it does. I studied the fragrance pyramid — the architecture behind every great perfume — and learned how top notes, heart notes and base notes work together to create something that doesn't just smell good in the jar, but evolves beautifully as it burns and slowly fills your room. I started Time to Burn after being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Struggling with chronic pain and constant headaches from synthetic fragrance oils, I went looking for something better — and when I couldn't find it, I made it myself. Natural essential oils changed everything. Not just how my candles smelled, but how they felt to be around. Cleaner. Richer. More considered. I was hooked. Every blend I create is entirely my own. You won't find these scents anywhere else. I don't reach for a fragrance oil catalogue — I build every blend from scratch, like writing a story. The top notes hit you first, bright and immediate. Then as the candle opens up, the heart notes emerge, and finally the base notes settle in — deep, lingering, and completely intentional. Understanding how that story unfolds in wax, on a burn, in a room — that's the craft. It is time consuming. It is a labour of love. And I wouldn't have it any other way. And then there's the jar. Each one is handmade by me in Jesmonite, with hand-mixed pigments and a finish that makes it as much a piece of decoration as a candle. Because I believe a candle should be beautiful even when it isn't burning — something you're proud to have on your shelf, not something you hide away. Which is exactly why every jar is refillable. Once you find a scent you love, you shouldn't have to give up the vessel that holds it. Simply order a refill wax pod, drop it in, and your ritual continues. The same beautiful jar. The same extraordinary scent. Less waste, more intention. It's the only way luxury should work. Teaching candle making workshops has only deepened everything. Watching people discover their own scent preferences, guiding them through building a blend that's completely personal to them — it's made me sharper, more curious, and more driven than ever to get every single scent exactly right. This is what I do. This is what I love. And every candle I make carries that with it.
